CLIENT OVERVIEW

YOURS (Youth Organizing Urban Revitalization Systems) is a Baltimore-based, nonprofit organization focused on education, entrepreneurship and community revitalization. Its goal is to provide Baltimore youth with empowering support that will help them succeed in life and ultimately, enrich the community as a whole. Much of the organization's work is centered inside a store that also is a hands-on classroom. The store, located in a well-known Baltimore neighborhood, is where, among other things, young, social entrepreneurs are trained to launch and run their own businesses.

PROJECT LEADERSHIP

I recommended that, in addition to a brochure, they develop a word-of-mouth marketing piece that would share one, consistent message about their overall organizational goals. A postcard could be something inexpensive, yet creative too. YOURS employees, participants and store visitors could use the cards to serve their personal purposes. In this way, people would spread the word about YOURS by using the postcards to fit their own needs.

DESIGN PROCESS NOTES

The YOURS mission, "Volunteer...Support...Facilitate," was a strong community message to feature on the postcard, so I designed the card and a matching poster with those words front and center. Then, I included a "loose" illustrative style for the art with appeal across many age groups and diverse backgrounds. The hands are reaching together to signify how every person, regardless of their "demographic," can be involved with improving their community.

RESPONSE

To date, grant funding to print the postcards is pending. However, YOURS remains excited about the possibilities of these cards and the impact they will have once printed.
