EVENT OVERVIEW

Every year, Carroll Hospital Center honors their physicians with a lovely, themed dinner event called Doctors Day. This special gathering acknowledges their physicans' achievements for the year and honors their commitment to the hospital and community.

PROJECT LEADERSHIP

The general theme for Doctors Day, preset by the hospital's internal marketing team, is usually something that calls to mind a very definite visual and this year was no different. They chose the ace of hearts and a deck of cards for their theme. (The hospital has used a heart in their logo for over 40 years.) My recommendation was to create promotional pieces for the event that were more dignified, sophisticated and refined. This seemed most fitting for the importance of the occasion.

DESIGN PROCESS NOTES

With this project, I learned a lot about printing with dull and gloss varnishes. The intricacies of my illustration required extra attention to both aesthetic and technical details of the entire design. I pushed the envelope for myself technically and was pleased with the results and the way the varnishes enhanced the design.

RESPONSE

The client was extremely happy with the look and thrilled with the response and comments they received from doctors, saying it was one of their most successful Doctors Day events to date. The client entered these promotional pieces into the 2008 Alfred Knight Awards, hosted by the Maryland Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development, and they received an award. Very prestigious for them...and me.
